Bay Runs' Mocha Lillie CGC

"Lillie"

Hi there,

My name is Lillie. I was born on December 16, 1994. I am a Chocolate Labrador Retriever. Labs are the most popular dog in America. Of course, that is not difficult to believe, as we are "prrretty" nice. Due to our wonderful easy going temperaments, we make great service dogs, dependable hunting dogs, and loyal, friendly, outgoing companions. We love most everyone. I live with my 2 Sheltie sisters and Sheltie brother and my human mom and dad. After you are done reading all about me, you can check them out here - Home.

The Labrador Retriever

You might think that Labs came from Labrador, but they came from Newfoundland. The start of the breed was in [image]the early 1800s when a smaller type water dog started appearing. However, it was not until the latter part of the 19th century in England that the Labrador as we know it today was developed. It still retains many of the characteristics of appearance and temperament seen in the very early days of the breed. Newfoundland comprises the island located botton right on the map and the coast line of Labrador.

Labs vary in size from about 21" to some around 30",and weigh from about 55lbs to over 100. The American Kennel Club Standard says for them to be 55 to 75lbs and 21 1/2 to 24 1/2 inches depending on whether the dog is male or female. The original color was black, but today one can also find various shades of yellow or brown. The most distinctive feature of the breed is its very thick, densely coated tail. The tail should not have feathering(lots of them do have a little), and should appear rounded. Watch out when a Lab is happy, as that ol' tail gets going up and down and making circles, and flapping all over the place. : )

Over 12,000 Labs are born "each" month, just in the USA. Many times there will be 10 puppies in a litter. If you want an adult dog, you might want to check the LABRADOR RETRIEVER RESCUE, INC. HOMEPAGE .

Here is a great site for information on Labrador Retrievers. It should answer all of your questions about Labs. The Labrador Retriever Home Page

Our Agility Page. Mom has some pictures of Nicci doing agility. We have some bar jumps, a dog walk, tire jump and tunnel, and weave poles in our backyard (more pictures coming). Mom lets me play in the tunnel and on the dogwalk. You can see a Sheltie howling (ol' noisy Nicci); go give the page a peek.
